Two days complete, one important day remaining at Fall Regional

As anticipated, the level of competition increased on day two as the student-athletes adjusted and settled into their first ACAC Curling competition of the year at the Pidherney Curling Centre in Red Deer.

Here is a summary of what happened Saturday.

Men

9:00 a.m.              UAA vs. LAKE

The University of Alberta Augustana Vikings began their day with a 7-5 win over Lakeland College.

9:00 a.m.              OLDS vs. NAIT

In a close contest, the NAIT Men's Curling team defeated Olds College 7-6.

12:30 p.m.            RDC vs. NAIT

The RDC men won 8-2 over NAIT.

12:30 p.m.            OLDS vs. UAA

The U of A Augustana Men's Curling team blanked Olds College 5-0.

4:00 p.m.              RDC vs. LAKE

Edging Lakeland College 6-5, the RDC men picked up the win.

7:30 p.m.              UAA vs. NAIT

NAIT defeated the U of A Augustana Vikings 6-5.

7:30 p.m.              RDC vs. OLDS

The RDC Men's Curling team won 4-2 over Olds College.

Women

12:30 p.m.            UAA vs. LAKE

The U of A Augustana Vikings defeated Lakeland College 6-1.

12:30 p.m.            GMU vs. CUE

Concordia University won 6-3 over MacEwan University.

12:30 p.m.            NAIT vs. RDC

In a close matchup, the RDC Women's Curling team edged NAIT 5-4.

7:30 p.m.              RDC vs. CUE

The Concordia University Women's Curling team defeated RDC 7-4.

7:30 p.m.              UAA vs. GMU

The U of A Augustana Women's Curling team defeated MacEwan University 8-6.

7:30 p.m.              NAIT vs. LAKE

NAIT defeated Lakeland College 7-1.

Mixed

9:00 a.m.              LAKE vs. RDC

The RDC Mixed Curling team picked up a 6-1 win over Lakeland College.

9:00 a.m.              GMU vs. PC

MacEwan University won 10-4 over Portage College.

9:00 a.m.              CUE vs. OLDS

The Olds College Mixed Curling team defeated Concordia University 8-1.

9:00 a.m.              UAA vs. NAIT

NAIT picked up an 8-6 victory over U of A Augustana.

12:30 p.m.            LAKE vs. CUE

Finishing 9-6, Lakeland College picked up the win over Concordia University.

12:30 p.m.            RDC vs. UAA

It was a 7-5 win for the RDC mixed team over U of A Augustana in this matchup.

4:00 p.m.              GMU vs. NAIT

The MacEwan University Mixed Curling team defeated NAIT 9-1.

4:00 p.m.              PC vs. OLDS

Olds College defeated Portage College 7-4.

7:30 p.m.              NAIT vs. OLDS

In a close matchup, NAIT shaded Olds College 6-5.

7:30 p.m.              CUE vs. RDC

Concordia University won 6-1 over RDC.

7:30 p.m.              GMU vs. LAKE

The Lakeland College Mixed Curling team defeated MacEwan University 7-5.

Red Deer College Curling Head Coach Brad Hamilton thought that the level of play was elevated on the second day at the Fall Regional.

"There were some pretty good games out there and really nice shots today," said Hamilton. "Everyone gets used to the ice and the nerves are gone. I think the play improved across the board."

Sunday, teams have a final opportunity to improve their placement in the standings. The final day of the ACAC Curling Fall Regional begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Pidherney Curling Centre.
