The 2017 PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships wrapped up at Royal Ashburn Golf Club on Friday, and Shaye Leidenius, and the RDC Kings Golf team, moved up the leaderboard on the final day with some solid performances.

Leidenius shot an impressive 77 to cap off the four-day championship and remarkably finished in 4th spot nationally among women golfers. The Ponoka golfer picked up 9 pars and 2 birdies on Friday and had a four-round total of 328 strokes. Sarah-Eve Rheaume, of the Champlain St. Lawrence Lions, finished the national competition in top spot with a total of 311 strokes.

The Kings Golf team moved up 1 spot to 9th on the final day. The top ranked RDC male golfer over 4 rounds, Logan Hill, shot an 80 and sat tied for 29th with a total of 319 strokes. Justin Loro also fired an 80 on Friday. Cole Morrison had an excellent day on the course and picked up an outstanding 73. Clayton Dunn and Cody Clipperton each shot an 83. Daniel Campbell, of the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, finished in 1st place with 288 over the 4 days.

Jeff Willmer, RDC coach, was very pleased with the overall experience and how the student-athletes competed on the final day. "Royal Ashburn Golf Club, a very tough course, has been a great host and has held many big events. The RDC golfers were definitely happy with their performances to end the championships," said Willmer. "They were able to gain some ground which will help with their confidence moving forward. Having made it to nationals, everyone is already a champion. Being able to compete at this level is something that they will carry for years to come."
