Vikings clinch second in North

CAMROSE, Alta. - In a highly anticipated matchup the Augustana Vikings and Red Deer Queens volleyball teams faced off at the Augustana gymnasium Saturday evening in Camrose. The Vikings managed to come away with a 3-1 victory, clinching the second seed in the ACAC north division.

In front of a great crowd the Vikings and Queens exchanged victories in the first two sets of the match with the Vikings taking the first by a score of 25-23 and the Queens winning handily in the second 25-13. The Vikings would gain momentum throughout the match to take final two sets each with a score of 25-12.

With the top players all bringing their best, the Queens Emma Holmes played an outstanding game on both sides of the net. Holmes would end the evening with nine kills to go along with three digs. The Vikings spead out offense saw four players with at least 10 kills on the evening. Leading the way for the Vikings, Emily Peterson ended the match with 14 kills and one timely block. Vikings veteran Shae Boyes added to her esteemed resume with six aces on the night, good enough to climb into 2nd all time for aces.

Both teams will make their way to Lethbridge for the ACAC women's volleyball championship beginning February 22nd. All of the action can be found on Telus OptikTV and ACACTV.
