RDC Athlete of the Week for March 18, 2019

Matt Hope was an important member of the Red Deer College Kings’ bronze medal performance at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track Championships in Calgary last weekend.

Individually, the third-year earned bronze in the men’s 1,000 m final (2:36.15), less than three and a half seconds behind first-place Leonard Chesoo (2:32.89) of Concordia University. Then in the 1,500 m, the Bachelor of Education Secondary student from Red Deer added another bronze to his collection, with a time of 4:08.57. Matt’s result was impressively over 11 seconds faster than fourth place.

RDC Athlete of the Week for November 13, 2018

Matthew Hope has been among the top Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) male runners this year, and also proved his talent on the national circuit this past Saturday in Ontario. At the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships, the Bachelor of Education Secondary student (28:01) finished third over 8 km, earning national bronze in snowy and cool temperatures. Despite an ailing back, the third-year student-athlete showed a lot of heart and was named an All-Canadian for his outstanding bronze medal achievement.

RDC Athlete of the Week for October 29, 2018

Matthew Hope had an exceptional 8 km race at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running Championships in Vermilion this past weekend. Matthew (26:19) led the way for the RDC Kings, helping them capture team silver. Individually, the Bachelor of Education Secondary student crossed the finish line third, locking up a bronze medal and a spot on the All-Conference team. He has been a tremendous addition to the RDC Kings this season, consistently competing at a high level. With the silver medal at the ACAC championships, the RDC Kings qualified for the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships at Seneca College’s King Campus, just north of Toronto on November 10.

RDC Athlete of the Week for September 17, 2018

In his first grand prix of the 2018 – 19 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running season, Matthew (25:36) displayed a strong work ethic and captured second place among ACAC male runners at Grand Prix #2 in Calgary. The Bachelor of Education Secondary student showed his leadership and helped guide the Red Deer College Kings to second spot as a group. The student-athlete from Red Deer was only five seconds behind Matt Travaglini (25:31) from SAIT, who has dominated ACAC Men’s Cross Country Running the past few seasons.
