Domoney and Queens execute game plan, drop Kodiaks in straight sets

Lethbridge, AB – The RDC Queens followed their game plan to a tee on Saturday afternoon and convincingly defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in three sets (25-14, 25-13 and 25-14).

Kaylee Domoney, a Business Administration Human Resources student, was selected as the Queens Player-of-the-Game, accumulating 15 digs and one assist while effectively setting up the RDC offence. Setter Natalie Bloemen spread out the attack, recording 26 assists, eight digs, two kills and two stuffs.

Calgary's Erin Neufeldt led the way with 8 kills. Katrina Dawe and Alexandria Greenshields had 7 each and Emma Holmes contributed 6 in the road victory.

Laura Serafini received the honour for the Kodiaks, totaling three kills, three digs, three stuff blocks and one ace.

The second place Red Deer College Queens (16-8) wrapped up the regular season schedule but several teams have a couple of matches remaining next weekend. The Briercrest College Clippers (20-2) lead the south with 40 points. After the Queens (32 points) are the Ambrose University Lions (14-8) in third. The SAIT Trojans (13-9) currently hold the final playoff spot in the division with 26 points, but the positioning of teams can still change.

In the north division, The King's University Eagles (19-2) and Lakeland College Rustlers (19-3) share top spot with 38 points. The University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (13-8) hold third and the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves (9-13) sit in fourth.

The Ambrose University Lions (14-8) will host the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Volleyball Championship from February 21 to 23 in Calgary. The Queens are peaking at the perfect time with the championship quickly approaching. The RDC team has won six consecutive matches and 15 of their past 18.
