Rattlers over Queens in Medicine Hat

Saturday evening, the Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team competed against the Rattlers in Medicine Hat, and after the Queens took the opening set the Rattlers won the next three sets to claim the match.

The RDC Queens began the match strongly and won the first set 25-19. The Medicine Hat College Rattlers started to pick up their game and grabbed the next three sets 25 - 23, 25 - 14 and 25 - 11.

Katrina Dawe was chosen as the player-of-the-game for the Queens. The outside hitter from Grande Prairie totaled 14 digs and 4 kills. Miranda Dawe led the RDC Queens with 12 kills. The Kinesiology & Sport Studies student added 12 digs. Setter Chanelle Kayser, a Bachelor of Science Nursing student, accumulated 25 assists, 7 digs and 1 stuff block. 

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler appreciated the start, but noted that some inconsistencies in putting the ball away made a difference. "We came out with a good performance in the first set. We blocked and dug the ball quite well but then Medicine Hat College found their defence," said Wandler. "After the first set, our left-sides were unable to terminate the ball and when that happens it is tough to win."

Wandler would like to see more energy on Sunday. "Tomorrow we need to play with more urgency in our game," said Wandler. "There needs to be the mindset of making things happen rather than hoping that positive things will happen."

In a rematch, the RDC Queens (4 - 3) will face the Rattlers (2 - 5) on Sunday, November 5 at 12:00 p.m.
