Dawe helps lead Queens to four set victory

In a rematch, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks hosted the Red Deer College Queens and several student-athletes sparked the Queens on Saturday afternoon. The team put forth a solid effort and defeated the Kodiaks in four sets.

In the opening set, the RDC Queens defeated the Kodiaks 25-16. RDC picked up an impressive 25-13 win in the second set. In a close set, Lethbridge College won 28-26 and the Queens capped off the match with a 25-21 victory.

Miranda Dawe contributed 17 kills, 2 assists, 15 digs and 1 stuff block for the Queens. McKenna Barthel had 14 kills and Naomi Jardine finished with 12 for RDC. As a team, the Queens picked up 5 service aces, 54 kills and 77 digs in the win.

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler made a few adjustments Saturday afternoon and liked the effort. "I made a couple of changes in the lineup today with McKenna Olson and Naomi Jardine. McKenna is a really good blocker and server which helped," said Wandler. "Naomi has very good defensive and passing instincts. Our setter, Chanelle Kayser, set a better left-side game tonight. Overall, there seemed to be more purpose on the court today."

Naomi Jardine was named the player-of-the-game for the Queens. The Bachelor of Education (Elementary) student finished with 12 kills, 1 assist, 1 service ace, 1 stuff block and 16 digs. Laura Serafini was the top choice for the Kodiaks and accumulated 2 kills, 2 assists, 3 digs and 3 stuff blocks. 

The Queens (4-2) will compete against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (1-4) next weekend in a pair of matches. On Friday, November 4, the teams will hit the court at 6:00 p.m.
