The Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team has been playing well and are ranked 7th in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Winners of 12 matches in a row, the RDC Queens (17-3) came into Friday's match against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2-18) in 2nd spot in the ACAC Women's Volleyball South Division with 34 points.

The Queens jumped out to a lead, never relinquished it and defeated the Rattlers in straight sets. RDC won the opening set 25-19 and took the 2nd set 25-17. The Rattlers tried to push back in the 3rd set but the Queens eventually won 25-20.

Miranda Dawe led the RDC Queens with 13 kills. The Kinesiology and Sport Studies student added 1 assist, 1 service ace, 1 stuff block and 12 digs. For RDC, Chanelle Kayser contributed 29 assists, 2 service aces and 9 digs. Amber Stigter led the Rattlers with 9 kills.

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler was pleased with several aspects of Friday's performance.

"We served the ball well tonight and our floor defence made good decisions on the out of system balls," said Wandler. "That has been one of our strengths all season."

Several student-athletes impressed Wandler throughout the match.

"Lauren Marshall was once again solid on the passing end which helped keep all of our attackers as a threat," said Wandler. "Katrina Dawe made her 1st start of the year, with Brittney Davis and Jade Van Dyke not at 100%, and finished with 9 kills and the player-of-the-game."

Along with 9 kills, Katrina Dawe added 11 digs in an impressive effort. Once again, Lauren Marshall helped set up the Queens' offence and accumulated 14 digs and 3 assists.

With the road victory, the RDC Queens (18-3) remain in 2nd spot in the ACAC Women's Volleyball South Division with 36 points and have won 13 matches in a row.

In an afternoon rematch, the Rattlers host the Queens Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
