RDP Queens continue winning ways against Broncos in Olds

Olds, AB - The second place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team continues to roll. 

Captain Alisha Coules and Sein Furuyama, Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer scoring leader, scored a pair of goals each, leading the Queens to a 4-2 victory and helping the team record its fifth consecutive win. 

In the 17th minute, Furuyama provided the visitors a 1-0 edge with her 17th goal of the season. She picked up a loose ball in the box and fired it past Broncos goalkeeper Kaia Galuska.

Within one minute, the Broncos evened the contest with a strike by Kami Tams.

The 1-1 score held until the 57th minute when Coules, a Bachelor of Science Nursing student, was in alone on Galuska and beat the Broncos goalkeeper.

Six minutes later, Furuyama gave the RDP Queens a two goal cushion (3-1) with her league leading 18th goal. The talented student-athlete from Japan has 10 more goals than the second highest scorer. 

Tams picked up her second goal of the afternoon and pulled the Broncos within one goal in the 71st minute.

The Queens went back to work offensively. Stettler's Coules scored her third goal of the season and lifted the visitors to a 4-2 lead in the 74th minute.

Neither side could convert in the final 16 minutes and the Queens wrapped up a 4-2 road win. 

Queens goalkeeper Abby Kotyk made four saves. 

Calgary's Kayla Yeo, a Practical Nurse Diploma student, was named the Queens Player of the Game. 

With the decision, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (5-1-0) continue to hold second spot in the ACAC Women's Soccer South Division. The Queens lead the league in offensive production with 49 goals scored over six games.

The RDP Queens (5-1-0) will challenge the first place SAIT Trojans (6-0-0) on Sunday, October 2 at noon.
