Lethbridge, AB - After the RDC Queens fell behind the Lethbridge College Kodiaks by a pair in the first half they attempted six shots at Kodiaks goalkeeper Micaela Stone in the second half, but couldn't convert. The Kodiaks picked up a 3-0 home decision.
Only six minutes into the contest, Lethbridge College hit the scoresheet. The Kodiaks Ashley Sazalski intercepted a pass and beat Queens goalkeeper Alethea Riemer on the right side. Then in the 15th minute, Sazalaski connected for her second tally. Kodiaks defender Ailsa Fallows sent a clearing pass up field which found Sazalski. The student-athlete directed a shot at the Queens' net. Riemer got a piece of the shot, but not quite enough, as the Kodiaks went up by two.
In the second half, Jasmin Salmon took advantage of a loose ball, giving the Lethbridge College Kodiaks a 3-0 edge in the 59th minute. That goal was the final marker of the contest and the Kodiaks sealed a 3-0 win.
Alethea Riemer, a Bachelor of Science Nursing student, made five saves for RDC. Micaela Stone turned aside three attempts.
Calgary's Rebecca McBride earned the Queens Player-of-the-Game award. Brooklyn Bellevance was named the top Kodiaks performer.
Next weekend, the RDC Queens will play a pair of home games. On Friday, October 13, the Red Deer College Queens (1-1-0) will host the Olds College Broncos (2-0-0) at RDC Main Field at 2:00 p.m. Then on Sunday, October 15, the SAIT Trojans (0-1-0) will pay a visit to RDC at 12:00 p.m.
