Coules powers Queens Soccer team past Rattlers

Medicine Hat, AB - It was the start to the 2019-20 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer season that the RDC Queens were looking for. After a scoreless first half, the Queens' offence kicked into another gear, exploding for four consecutive goals against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. The RDC Queens earned an impressive 4-0 road shutout. 

Rattlers Amanda Oevering was the busier of the two goalkeepers. The Queens took eight shots towards the second-year goalkeeper from Abbotsford over 45 minutes. RDC Queens goalkeeper Alethea Riemer was unbeatable on two Rattlers' attempts. 

Early in the second half, RDC's second-year, Alisha Coules, went to work. The Bachelor of Science Nursing student opened the scoring in the 51st minute. About ten minutes later, Coules put the Queens up by a pair and in the 70th minute the forward from Stettler completed the natural hat, giving the Queens a 3-0 lead. Midfielder Abbi Galloway, a Bachelor of Education Elementary student, set up the third marker.

The Queens continued to apply pressure and less than three minutes later Red Deer's Mikayla Fujimoto added a fourth goal. At the final whistle, the visiting Queens wrapped up a 4-0 victory. 

The RDC Queens fired six shots towards the Rattlers' net in the final 45 minutes. Riemer, from Trail, B.C., shut the door for RDC in the second half, stopping two more shots. 

Alisha Coules was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Jadyn Fode earned the honour for the Rattlers, forcing Riemer to make one of her four saves.

The Red Deer College Queens will look for their second win of the young season in Lethbridge on Sunday, September 8. The Queens (1-0) and Kodiaks (1-0) will hit the pitch at 12:00 p.m.
