Queens and Kodiaks play to scoreless draw in Lethbridge

Lethbridge, AB - In the second last game of the regular season, the Red Deer College Queens and Lethbridge College Kodiaks played effective defence, playing to a 0 - 0 draw. 

RDC's Kayla Yeo generated some offensive opportunities, firing 5 shots towards Kodiaks' goalkeeper Brittany Klein. Over 90 minutes, Klein made 8 saves. Queens' goalkeeper, Erin Gill, turned aside 3 shots. 

Queens Soccer Head Coach Esad Elkaz noted the challenge of breaking through the Kodiaks' defence on the afternoon. "We had a few chances today but played against a team who was really defending," he says. "It was hard for us to break the line."

Elkaz was impressed with one of his leaders in the defensive contest. "Jaden Humphrey did a great job today as one of our captains and leaders," he says. "In a scoreless game like this, there is a chance of the players losing some patience, but she was very good at supporting her teammates and calming everything down."

The one point earned in the standings was significant in the Queens' playoff picture. "With the one point we were able to officially lock up second place in the south," he says.

With the tie, the Queens have 23 points, sealing second spot in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer South Division. The third place Lethbridge College Kodiaks have 17 points, and with only one game remaining, they cannot catch the RDC Queens. SAIT (11 - 0) has captured top spot in the south with 33 points. 

When the postseason begins, the second place Queens will face the third seed from the ACAC North Division. Currently, it is the Concordia University Thunder (4 - 2 - 2) but that can still change.

The RDC Queens (7 - 2 - 2) will continue their road trip on Sunday and wrap up the regular season against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2 - 8 - 1) at 12:00 p.m.
