Red Deer, AB – In a battle between the top two teams in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer South Division, the RDC Queens captured an early lead and competed hard against the SAIT Trojans but couldn't topple the first place club.

The RDC Queens connected only 5 minutes in. From the side, Emily Richard beat Trojans goalkeeper Amy Offredi with a long strike into the top corner. Then, Deanna Kuan and Jamie McPherson gave SAIT a 2 - 1 edge. In the 27th minute, Teryn Wright responded and knotted the contest 2 - 2. Showing tremendous speed and persistence, Wright followed up a loose ball up the right side and found the open cage.

Scoring her second goal of the game, Deanna Kuan struck in the 48th minute and Sage Meyers rounded out the SAIT scoring in the 62nd minute. The Trojans picked up a 4 -2 win.

Queens Soccer Head Coach Esad Elkaz liked the first half but felt that the Queens strayed from the game plan in the latter stages. "We played the first half according to the plan. We wanted to hold and wait for them, but having a young team we lost that patience," he says. "Tomorrow is another day. Let's move on."

Erin Gill was selected as the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Deanna Kuan picked up the award for the Trojans.

The Bachelor of Education student from Red Deer made seven saves and was a steady factor as the last line of defence. "Erin was very aggressive and kept us in the game," says Elkaz. "She did awesome."

Elkaz and the Queens will try to get back in the win column on Sunday. "It's always a learning experience," he says. "For tomorrow we will play a different game. We want to get back on the pitch, hopefully picking up the three points in the standings."

On Sunday, October 14, the second place Red Deer College Queens (6 – 2 - 1) will compete against the fourth seeded Olds College Broncos (4 – 4 – 1) at 12:00 p.m. at the RDC Main Field.
