Rattlers score a pair of second half goals, pick up road win

At the RDC Field on Saturday, the RDC Queens hosted the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. Entering the afternoon contest, the Rattlers (4-1-1) sat in 3rd spot in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer South Division with 13 points. The RDC Queens (1-3-3) were in 4th and had 6 points in the standings. After a scoreless opening half, the Rattlers struck for a pair of goals in the 2nd half to claim a 2-0 win. 

Erin Gill was the starting goalkeeper for the Queens while Kassidy Suberlak was in net for the Rattlers. At the half, neither team could score. Erin Gill made a positive impact for the Queens as she made 7 saves over the opening 45 minutes.

The Queens controlled much of the play but couldn't beat Suberlak. Shaelynn Holdaway scored a pair for the Rattlers in the latter half which sealed a 2-0 win. Her first tally came in the 79th minute and second goal was scored in the 86th minutes. Gill turned aside 15-of-17 Rattlers' shots while Suberlak stopped 5 Queens' attempts. Both Corrinn Graham and Krysten Strand had 2 shots on goal for RDC.

Queens Soccer Head Coach Esad Elkaz was happy with the effort. "The student-athletes really played well and had a great effort," said Elkaz. "We created many chances but couldn't finish and Medicine Hat capitalized on their chances."

Chelsea Webster was named the Queens player-of-the-game. The fifth-year Bachelor of Science (Nursing) student is from Calgary.

The Red Deer College Queens (1-4-3) will compete against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (2-4-1) on Sunday, October 15 at 12:00 p.m.
