Sutherland strikes in OT, Queens drop Trojans

Brent Forster - RDC

Calgary, AB - An overtime goal from Ashley Sutherland was the difference Friday night against the SAIT Trojans. The Queens and Trojans traded goals in the middle stanza but neither side held the edge over 60 minutes. Less than three minutes into the extra frame, Queens' talented defender Ashley Sutherland sniped the game-winning goal, earning the two points in the standings.

It wasn't until the second period, when the Trojans lit the lamp. Brittany MacDonald beat Queens goalie Karlee Fetch at 1:57. Less than seven minutes later the Rowley sister connected on the equalizer. Brooklyn Rowley fed sister Sydney Rowley, who found room behind Trojans netminder Kaylin Schellenberg.

Queens veteran goaltender Karlee Fetch played well and had a 27 save performance. Schellenberg stopped 28 out of 30 shots.

Neither team scored on the power play. The Queens went zero-for-five. The Trojans couldn't strike on four attempts.

On Saturday, the Red Deer College Queens (9-1-1-0) will entertain the SAIT Trojans (1-10-0-0) at 7:00 p.m. at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
