Queens earn a point, Ooks take shootout

Edmonton, AB - When the RDC Queens and NAIT Ooks were forced to decide Friday's contest by a shootout, hockey fans knew anything was possible. The Ooks third shooter, Livia Lucova, found space behind Queens goaltender Karlee Fetch, helping the home team pick up a 4-3 decision.

The Queens connected early in the game. At 5:06, first-year forward Carissa Hogan beat Ooks goaltender Kaitlyn Slator on the power play. Avery Lajeunnesse and Mary Hirsch had the assists. 

NAIT's Bre Martin responded nine minutes later with a power play goal of her own. Before the end of the period, the Red Deer College Queens regained their one goal margin. Madison Sansom set up Jenessa Fournier with 45 seconds remaining in the frame.

The Queens' one goal edge was extended to a pair (3-1) at 5:49 of the final stanza. Carissa Hogan recorded her second of the game and third of the season. Captain Kirsten Baumgardt and Avery Lajeunnesse picked up the helpers.

Wtih 5:25 left in the game, Livia Lucova brought the Ooks within one.  

Then on the power play, Bre Martin rifled a shot that deflected off a Queens defender, forcing overtime. Extra time couldn't produce a winner and Livia Lucova scored in the shootout, providing the home team the extra point. 

The Queens outshot the Ooks 40-36. 

RDC went one-for-four with the extra skater. NAIT connected twice on six tries.

Rosetown, Saskatchewan's Carissa Hogan was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Red Deer's Bre Martin received the award for the Ooks.
