Rincon and Queens push Rattlers on the road

Medicine Hat, AB - The Red Deer College Queens certainly made the Medicine Hat College Rattlers work for the two points. The Rattlers pulled off some late heroics and edged the Queens 71-70.

Medicine Hat College held a 35-32 lead at the break, but RDC didn't relent. 

The RDC Queens eventually captured a lead in the fourth quarter.

The final 21 seconds brought some clutch shooting from the home team.

RDC was up 69-66 until Sandra Garcia-Bernal hit a free-throw, propelling the visitors up 70-66.

With 12 seconds on the clock, Medicine Hat connected on a three-pointer (69-70).

Then the home side drained two consecutive free-throws with two seconds left to take a one point edge (71-70). The Queens tried to toss a long ball before the final buzzer, but time ran out. 

Valentina Rincon was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game. The Business Administration student contributed 22 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. She hit eight-of-16 from the field and 75 per cent from the free-throw line.

Morgan Muir received the honour for the Rattlers. She totaled 27 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Stauffer, Alberta's Amy Szymanek recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Sandra Garcia-Bernal had 15 points and six rebounds.

The Rattlers held the advantage on the boards (45-35).

On Saturday, the RDC Queens (4-5) will play the Briercrest College Clippers in Saskatchewan at 6:00 p.m.
