Queens elevate play in second half but fall short in Olds

Olds, AB – Led by Harneet Sidhu's 15 points, the RDC Queens put forth a solid effort but dropped an 82-67 decision to the Olds College Broncos.

The Broncos were energized early on their home court, outscoring the Queens 47-32 at the half. Despite the Queens winning the fourth quarter, the visitors couldn't close the deficit and the Olds College Broncos picked up an 82-67 win.

Samantha Wade scored 12 points and added three rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Queens. Sandra Garcia-Bernal, Jessie Handley and Lauren Cardinal had nine points each. Cardinal, a five-foot-ten forward from St. Albert, was named the RDC Queens Player-of-the-Game.

As a group, the Queens shot 72.7 per cent from the free-throw line.

The Broncos Player-of-the Game, Michaela Allen-Gullion led the way for Olds College with 32 points, three assists, three rebounds and one steal. Brittney Thibeaux had 26 points, 13 rebounds and one steal for the Broncos.

On Saturday at 6:00 p.m., the Queens will compete against the Broncos at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

President's Challenge

RDC President & CEO, Joel Ward, took the first round over Stuart Callum, Olds College President, in a game of 21 as part of a two night President's Challenge. Round two will go Saturday during half-time of the Kings Basketball game. Olds Brewery and Troubled Monk are sponsoring a beer tasting event with proceeds going to the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC).
