Schultz and the Queens earn road victory over Lions

Friday in Calgary, the Red Deer College Queens outscored the Ambrose University Lions in both halves and earned an important 68-45 road victory. 

The Queens held a 41-21 edge after the opening half. The second quarter was the best offensively for the RDC Queens as they scored 23 points. Mary Krause led the way offensively for RDC over two quarters. The Bachelor of Education student accumulated 8 points and 1 rebound.

The RDC Queens scored 27 points in the final two quarters. Ambrose University responded with 24 and the Queens earned an important 68-45 win. Paige Schultz totaled 9 points and 1 rebound in the second half for the Queens. 

Queens Basketball Head Coach Ken King thought that it was a decent game but would like to see more attention to detail in the rematch at RDC. "I thought that we played okay tonight," said King. "There were moments that we were sloppy and we want to clean that up."

First-year guard Paige Schultz was the leading scorer for the Queens with 14 points. The Kinesiology & Sport Studies student added 1 rebound and was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in 21 minutes played. "Paige Schultz did many good things in the game," said King. "She made good decisions, her shot was falling and we really saw her growth as a first-year player." 

There were many contributions in the road win. "Emily White was really strong rebounding the ball. She also played aggressive and drove the basket," said King. "Eva Bonde and Maya Parker played well and they were really executing on the defensive end especially."

Emily White contributed 10 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals over 28 minutes played. Eva Bonde finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Maya Parker recorded 5 points, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 rebound. 

The RDC Queens had 4 more rebounds (46-42) than the Ambrose University Lions. 

The fifth place RDC Queens (10-8) will host the eighth place Ambrose University Lions (1-18) Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The Queens have been playing well and have an 8-2 record in their past 10 games which ranks close to the top of Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Basketball. The RDC Queens have 20 points in the standings. Fourth place St. Mary's University is only 2 points ahead. Medicine Hat College sits in third spot in the south with 24 points but they have played one more game than the RDC Queens.
