Basketball Queens defeat Lions by 19, move into 4th

With their final weekend regular season series underway, the Red Deer College Queens were looking for a strong effort Friday in Calgary against the Ambrose University Lions as a playoff position is still possible. The Queens received a consistent effort, outscored the Lions in every quarter and picked up an important 76-57 victory. 

The Red Deer College Queens had a 21-20 advantage after the 1st quarter. Outscoring the Lions 18-12 in the 2nd quarter, the Queens led 39-32 at the half. The Queens continued to press and scored 13 points in the 3rd quarter compared to 2 by the Lions. In the 4th quarter, RDC had a 24-23 advantage and earned a 76-57 victory. 

Emily White led the RDC Queens with 20 points. The forward from Horsens, Demark added 16 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. 

Queens Basketball Head Coach Ken King was very pleased with the victory.

"Honestly, that was probably one of our top 3 games of the year with our effort and energy," said King.

Emily White and Dedra Janvier had strong games for RDC and combined for 39 points. Rookie, Brooke Kirkpatrick received praise from King.

"Brooke Kirkpatrick was our 3rd leading scorer tonight with 10 points," said King. "She made some clutch shots for us in this game and should receive consideration for Rookie of the Year."

With the win, the Queens (9-11) jump into the 4th and final playoff position in the ACAC Women's Basketball South Division with 18 points. The Rattlers sit in 5th spot with 16 points but have 2 games in hand. 

The RDC Queens host the Ambrose University Lions Saturday, Feb. 18 at 6:00 p.m at the RDC Main Gym.
