The Kings battled back to a 3-1 victory over the Rattlers

Medicine Hat, October 28 - After a bye week for Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball, they were finally back in action in Medicine Hat to take on the Rattlers this evening.

It was a tough first set for the Kings Volleyball team after coming off a bye week last weekend. Newcomer Colby Nemeth was looking good on his serves with one error could end the match. He would ace one but his next serve, Nemeth would mishit the ball and it would go straight into the net. The Rattlers would take the first set 25-20. Regardless of the result, the Kings battled hard and had some moments where they were shining.

It was definitely a different Kings team in the second set. Head Coach Aaron Schulha must have said something in the set break to spark the Kings team to come out with a better effort. The Kings were leading 22-8 after some strong effort offensively with big hits and defensively with key digs in the match. They were also blocking the ball well and stopping that Rattlers offence which was really shining in the second set. The Kings would take the second set 25-13 and tie the match up at one set apiece.

The Kings would open up the third set with a massive two-man block on the outside to take the first point of the set. The Kings would take the momentum from the win in the second set to cruise on to take the third set 25-15. In this set, the Kings finished with a set low of only four kills but only finished with two errors in this third set.

The offence would spark back up in the fourth set with 12 kills and only four errors. After that first set loss, the Kings definitely managed to decrease the errors and play their style of play.  They would finish off the match in the fourth set with 12 kills in a much closer game between the Rattlers and the team from Red Deer. The Kings would take the four set 25-20.

The players of the games were outside-hitter Brett Lower for the Kings and middle-blocker Josh Penner for the Rattlers.

Lower finished with the team lead in kills with 14 and had six service aces. As for Penner, he had six kills on nine total attempts with one solo block.

These two teams will face in a rematch at Medicine Hat College at 3 pm tomorrow.
