Fathers and Kings continue to trend up, dispatch Kodiaks in four

Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge College Kodiaks hadn't experienced a single defeat this season until the RDC Kings came to town. Now the Kodiaks have dropped back-to-back matches, after the Kings downed the host Kodiaks in four sets (25-23, 22-25, 26-24 and 34-32) on Saturday afternoon.

Mark DeWit, a Bachelor of Commerce student, was named the Kings Player-of-the-Game, contributing nine kills, three digs, two stuffs, one assist and one ace. Dax Whitehead picked up the award for the Kodiaks, totaling 12 kills, seven digs and one stuff.

Thomas Wass accumulated 63 assists, 12 digs, one kill, and effectively connected with right side hitter Regan Fathers, early and often. Fathers, a Kinesiology student, had another monster performance, stacking up an incredible 37 kills, 18 digs, one stuff and one ace.

The Kings have continually progressed throughout the season and will enter the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's Volleyball Championship with some momentum, going 8-2 in their past 10 matches.

The RDC Kings (18-6) sit in second place in the south and have completed regular season competition. Other teams have a pair of matches remaining next weekend. The Kodiaks (20-2) remain in top spot. The SAIT Trojans (13-9) follow the Kings and then the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (12-10) currently hold fourth.

In the north division, the Keyano College Huskies (21-1) lead the pack. Currently, NAIT (15-7) holds second and the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (14-7) are third. The Lakeland College Rustlers (11-11) occupy the final playoff spot.

The NAIT Ooks (15-7) will host the ACAC championship from February 21 to 23 in Edmonton. 

The Red Deer College Kings (18-6) will welcome the top collegiate men's volleyball teams from across Canada as they will compete for the national title from March 7 to 9 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Tickets can be purchased online
