Kings roll to three set win over Broncos

Olds, AB - The Fathers name has been prominent for the Kings this season and it was again in Olds. This time, it was Jayden Fathers who played a role in the Kings dropping the Olds College Broncos in straight sets (25-22, 25-20 and 25-13).

Thomas Wass, Mark DeWit, Ben Holmes, Jace Martin, Jayden Fathers and Marcus Roflik started for the Kings and they all made contributions in the road victory.

Aaron Schulha, Kings Head Coach, liked aspects of his team's performance, especially in the last set. "It was ok at times but sloppy for some of the first and second set," he says. "I thought we cleaned it up a bit in the third and that started with a few energy points early on with some digs and some solid net play."

Jayden Fathers was named the Kings Player-of-the-Game. The six-foot-one power hitter from Seacliff, South Australia, stacked up 5 kills, 6 digs, 3 service aces, 2 stuff blocks and 1 assist.

"Jayden Fathers had a decent match," says Schulha. "He had a few big blocks for us, several great digs and put Olds in trouble with his serve." 

After incredible weekend performances, fifth-years Regan Fathers and Adam Turlejski were given the match off. "It's always nice to get different guys in, but it is also important that those players make the most of their opportunities," says Schulha. 

Offensively, Ben Holmes led the way with 10 kills. The third-year Bachelor of Arts student added 10 digs, 1 stuff block, 1 assist and 1 service ace.

Both, Mark DeWit and Marcus Roflik contributed 8 kills each. Setter Thomas Wass had 23 assists, 3 kills, 3 digs, 2 service aces and 1 stuff block for the Kings. 

Steven Keating is still out of the lineup with an injury and is being further evaluated. 

On Friday at 8:00 p.m., the Red Deer College Kings (5-4) will compete against the Olds College Broncos (0-7) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
