Potent power play helps Kings triumph over Trojans in Calgary

Calgary, AB - The Trojans took 12 penalties Saturday evening and the Kings made them pay. Cashing in three times on the man advantage, RDC erased a one goal deficit in the third period to defeat SAIT 5-4.

The Kings and Trojans traded goals in the first period. Within five minutes each team struck twice. Dylan Thudium and Chance Longjohn beat Trojans goaltender Kyle Dumba less than 2:30 apart. Parker Evans-Campbell and Joren Patenaude tallied for the Trojans.

After Jared Power gave SAIT a 3-2 lead early in the second period, the Kings' power play gained steam. At 17:49, Jacob Wozney found the back of the net with the extra skater to knot the contest 3-3.

Zach McNeill gave the home side a temporary lead at 6:04 of the third. RDC used a pair of power plays to take the lead for good. Lloydminster's Austin Hunter tied the game and then with 7:27 remaining Chase Thudium potted the game-winner. Dylan Thudium assisted on both markers and led the Kings with three points. 

Kings goaltender Arik Weersink stopped 26 out of 30 shots for the win. Kyle Dumba made 38 saves, on 43 shots.

RDC clicked on three out of 11 power plays. SAIT went two-for-six.

The Red Deer College Kings (12-1-1-0) will be back in regular season action on Friday, January 10 against the MacEwan University Griffins. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
