Trojans grab game one of two-game set over Kings

Calgary, AB - The first half featured a significant momentum swing between the RDC Kings and SAIT Trojans. After the Kings jumped out to a lead, a strong performance from the home team in the second quarter helped them solidify a 97-85 decision.

The Kings hit the court with energy, scoring 32 points in the first quarter against the third ranked team in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Trojans responded with 21 points and then play shifted in the second quarter. SAIT outscored RDC 33-13 over the next ten minutes and led 54-45 at the break.

The home team held a three point margin (43-40) in the latter half, picking up a 97-85 home win. 

All-time Kings scoring leader Spencer Klassen accumulated 31 points, seven rebounds and one assist in 39 minutes. The fifth-year guard was named the Kings top player.

Tyronn King had a good outing, contributing 23 points, five rebounds and three assists. Red Deer's Cody White sank 11 points. Brett Hochhausen chipped in with eight points over 19 minutes. Ramiro Martinez Quintanilla Jimenez had six boards, four points, three steals and one assist.

Trojans Player-of-the-Game Calvin Chambers led his squad with 26 points. He added six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Charlie Connor scored 18 points and Gemie Muya had 15.

SAIT held the rebounding advantage (51-40) and shooting efficiency from the field (44-38.6%).

The Kings share fourth spot in the south with the Ambrose University Lions (8-7).

The RDC Kings (8-8) will entertain the SAIT Trojans (12-3) on Saturday at 8:00 pm.
