Strong second half pushes Clippers over Kings

Caronport, SK - The Briercrest College Clippers kicked their offence into another gear Saturday evening. They capitalized on a 68 point second-half and downed the visiting RDC Kings 106-89.

The Kings held a 44-38 edge at the break. The Clippers scored 36 points in the third quarter and added 32 in the fourth, dropping the Kings by 17. 

After playing in Medicine Hat Friday night, it was a quick turnaround for the second game of a lengthy road trip. Ten RDC student-athletes received playing time.

Red Deer's Spencer Klassen led the Kings with 20 points. Toronto's Tyronn King recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Kevin Szymanek and Brett Hochhausen contributed 12 points each.

Nicholas Gregeren ignited the Clippers with 28 points. Brandon Tolentino totaled 25 points and Kyle Helsloot had 20.

The Kings connected on 31-of-84 (36.9%) from the field. The Clippers sank 39 out of 70 (55.7%).

Briercrest College liked the long ball, draining 14. RDC hit seven from beyond the arc.

The Kings will play a pair of exhibition games at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre during the break. On Saturday, January 4, the RDC Kings will host the Keyano College Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Then on Sunday, the two teams will meet at noon. 

When conference play resumes, the Red Deer College Kings (5-5) will play the Broncos in Olds on Saturday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m.
