Kings down Broncos in Olds, stay in playoff hunt

Olds, AB - As every game looms large down the stretch, the Red Deer College Kings responded with a strong road game in Olds, remaining in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Kings held a 22 point lead at half-time, dropping the host Olds College Broncos 88-76. 

The Kings led 54-32 after two quarters, and at one time were up by 25 points. Olds College tried to narrow the gap, outscoring RDC 44-34 in the latter half, but time ran out and the Kings won by twelve points (88-76).

Spencer Klassen led the way offensively for the Kings, stacking up 23 points, nine rebounds, five assists and one steal. 

Ramiro Martinez Quintanilla Jimenez added 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block, earning the Kings Player-of-the-Game.

Khurram Sultan contributed 12 points and Anthony Harper chipped in with 11. Kevin Szymanek had 10 rebounds.

Broncos Player-of-the Game, Jouvon Edison, totaled 19 points, three rebounds and one assist. 

The Kings finished with four more (36-32) boards and were stronger from the free-throw line (71.4% to 50%). 

On Saturday at 8:00 p.m., the fourth place Kings (9-8) will host the Broncos (5-11) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. 

President's Challenge

RDC President & CEO, Joel Ward, took the first round over Stuart Callum, Olds College President, in a game of 21 on Friday evening in Olds, as part of a two-night President's Challenge. The second round will go on Saturday during half-time of the Kings Basketball game. Olds Brewery and Troubled Monk are sponsoring a beer tasting event with proceeds going to the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC).
