Saturday at RDC, the Kings played host to the Olds College Broncos. Even though the Kings picked up the victory in Olds on Thursday, they wanted to compete hard for all 4 quarters tonight. Shayne Stumpf was out of the Kings' lineup with an eye injury. While Stumpf was missed, his absence gave an opportunity for other players to gain valuable minutes. The Red Deer College Kings hit the court with energy, outscored the Broncos in 3-of-4 quarters and picked up an 86-66 home victory.

After the 1st quarter, the RDC Kings led 23-11. Khurram Sultan had 8 points for the Kings. Matt Francisco had 3 for the Broncos.

At the half, the Kings had a 43-35 advantage. Khurram Sultan added 5 more points for a total of 13. For RDC, Anthony Robbs was strong on the boards and collected 9 rebounds over 2 quarters. Abraham Murray led the Broncos with 12 points.

As a team, the Kings shot 46.2% from the field.

After 3 quarters, the RDC Kings were up by 10 (58-48). Khurram Sultan led the Kings with 15 points. Abraham Murray had 17 points for the Broncos.

The Kings continued to push in the 4th quarter and increased their lead to 20. At the final horn, the RDC Kings picked up an 86-66 home victory. Over 4 quarters, the Kings shot 45.9% from the field.

Anthony Robbs was named the Kings player-of-the-game. The forward from Las Vegas, Nevada finished with 19 points, 1 block, 2 steals, 4 assists and 13 rebounds.

Kings Basketball Head Coach Clayton Pottinger liked the effort.

"It was a pretty good effort," said Pottinger. "I liked that anytime they tried to push we had a response which is a good sign for this team."

The absence of a few Kings gave an opportunity for other student-athletes to step up.

"Looking at the silver lining with the injury issues that we've been having, is it gives other guys an opportunity to play a little bit more," said Pottinger. "There will be some growing pains but those guys were getting some valuable experience. Basketball is like life, where you get thrown a curve ball and we have to be ready to play with whoever we have."

Cody White, a 1st year guard for RDC, played 21 minutes and chipped in with 2 points and 2 rebounds. Zach Morgan, a 1st year forward, contributed 4 points and 1 assist over 9 minutes. Kevin Szymanek, a 1st year forward, played 10 minutes and picked up 2 points and 1 rebound.

With the win, the Red Deer College Kings (13-6) improve to 26 points in the ACAC Men's Basketball South Division. The Kings share 2nd place with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. SAIT leads the division with 28 points.

Only 2 regular season games remain for the Kings. Friday Feb. 17, the Ambrose University Lions host the Red Deer College Kings at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, the venue shifts to the RDC Main Gym where the same teams meet at 8:00 p.m.
