The Granary Kitchen RDP Athlete of the Week for March 7, 2022

Daniel Humbke brought his best when it mattered the most at the ACAC Curling Championships. The first-year played an integral role in helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings earn gold.

The RDP Kings (2-2) placed second in the standings after four draws, solidifying a spot in the finals. The team elevated its play in the gold medal game. Even though the Kings previously dropped a 4-3 decision to the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings, they reversed the fortunes and earned an impressive 6-2 victory over the hosts for the championship title on Sunday.

Humbke’s contributions were extremely valuable. The Bachelor of Kinesiology student from Lacombe displayed a positive attitude regardless of the circumstances over the weekend. His personality helped strengthen the Kings’ cohesiveness, which became even more important as the stakes rose on the final day. He worked incredibly hard and left it all out there on the ice.
