The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings are back-to-back Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men?s Hockey Champions. The Concordia University Thunder pushed the Kings to double overtime, but Kings? forward Jaxon Steele ended game three 3-2 and ultimately the best-of-five championship series in ACAC Men's Hockey Despite the Thunder playing their best of the series in this elimination game, the RDP Kings looked poised.

Five student-athletes from the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings and Queens Hockey teams have been recognized by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) for their impactful play during the 2023/2024 season.   Red Deer’s Avery Lajeunesse and Stettler’s Kyla Hansel have made the ACAC Women’s Hockey First All-Conference team. Jacob Wozney was selected to the ACAC Men’s Hockey First All-Conference team. Chance Longjohn and Tanner Sklaruk were named to the ACAC Men’s Hockey Second All-Conference team.

This week, the RDP Kings Hockey team will continue the ACAC Men’s Hockey Championship against the Concordia University Thunder. On Friday, March 22, the Kings will host the Thunder at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Indoor Track team wrapped up the 2023/2024 season with a total of 15 team and individual medals at the two-day Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track Championships. The RDP Queens had a dominant performance, earning gold with 95 points at the University of Alberta Pavilion. The Lethbridge College Kodiaks Women’s team picked up silver with 49.5 points. With 45 points, St. Mary’s University sealed bronze. The Kings solidified bronze with 63 team points. The Lethbridge College Kodiaks Men’s teams won gold (101 points). The SAIT Trojans followed with 83 points, earning silver.

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings’ special teams were firing on all cylinders in game one of the best-of-five final. The RDP Kings scored three power play goals and one shorthanded, defeating the Concordia University Thunder 6-3 in ACAC Men's Hockey.

This week, the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Curling team will compete at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/Curling Canada College Championships. The Kings Hockey team will begin the ACAC Men’s Hockey finals at home. The Red Deer Polytechnic Indoor Track team will vie for medals at the ACAC Indoor Track Championship.

It was a quick and challenging 22 hour turnaround for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship. Friday evening, the Queens were within a few points of advancing to the gold medal match, but were edged by the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners in a hard-fought five set marathon. The Queens had to quickly try and refocus on Saturday’s bronze semi-final against the Nordiques de Lionel-Groulx when they had aspirations of winning a national title on their home court. “Having played two good matches already this tournament and the way that the one last night went for us, reproducing emotion is difficult,” said Talbot Walton, RDP Queens Volleyball Head Coach. “It just looked like LG had more emotion in their game tonight.” The Nordiques got by the Queens in four sets (30-28, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-16), advancing to the bronze medal match against the Humber Hawks.

Special teams played a significant role in game one of the best-of-three semi-final between the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings and University of Alberta Augustana Vikings. The RDP Kings scored twice on the power play and killed off all six of the Vikings’ opportunities with the extra skater, earning a 3-2 victory at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens gave a heart-and-soul effort against the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners in Thursday’s semi-final at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship. Down two sets, the host Queens pushed the Pacific Western Athletic Association PACWEST Champions to five sets, but couldn’t fully complete the rally (30-32, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 10-15) in the lively Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens have advanced to the semi-finals at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Volleyball Championship.  In front of their energetic home fans, the RDP Queens swept the Humber Hawks (25-22, 25-13 and 25-14).

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens gave it their all in game three of the semi-finals, but had challenges solving the NAIT Ooks’ defence. The Ooks received 25 saves from goaltender Kaitlyn Slator and goals from two different student-athletes, picking up a 2-0 decision. NAIT edged RDP two games to one in the series and advanced to the finals.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens have struck first in the best-of-three semi-final against the NAIT Ooks in ACAC Women's Hockey. The Queens had stellar goaltending from Izzy Palumbo and received goals from three different student-athletes to earn a 3-2 home victory Friday evening.

Four members of the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Basketball teams have been acknowledged by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) for their exceptional play.Queens fifth-year guard Sandra Garcia-Bernal was named ACAC Women’s Basketball South Player of the Year and a First All-Conference team selection. Teammate Heena Sidhu made the ACAC Women’s Basketball Second All-Conference team. Kings guard Deandre Rowe was honoured as ACAC Men’s Basketball South Rookie of the Year. RDP’s Jose Mauro earned a spot on the Men’s Basketball Second All-Conference team.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team will host the NAIT Ooks in game one of the best-of-three ACAC Women's Hockey semi-final. During the regular season, the second place RDP Queens (19-6) won four out of five games against the third seed Ooks (17-8). The Queens had the most effective special teams over 25 games. They ranked first on the power play (15.9%) and penalty kill (93%). NAIT’s power play (11.3%) was fourth in the league. Their penalty kill (91.8%) was second.
