RDP Athletics Recap
This past week, both the RDP Kings and Queens Cross Country Running teams earned gold at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running Championships. The Queens Soccer team sealed bronze at the ACAC Women's Soccer Championship. The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Hockey teams won their weekend games. The RDP Rodeo team had many noteworthy performances in Olds.

Cross Country Running
Kings and Queens | ACAC Championships | Northwestern Polytechnic | Saturday, October 25
The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (26 points) and Queens (35 points) Cross Country Running teams won gold at the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships in Grande Prairie. Julianna Chipiuk (23:27) led the Queens and earned individual silver over 6 km. Georgia Sawchuk (24:53) finished eighth and Kammy Park (25:15) followed in ninth.
The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Women's team (56 points) sealed silver and the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (64 points) picked up bronze.
Japhet Kipkosgei (25:46) ranked second among ACAC male runners, solidifying a silver medal over 8 km. Andrew Leffers (27:32) placed fifth and Ryan Murei (28:22) was eighth.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks Men's team (46 points) earned silver and the Concordia University Thunder (81 points) wrapped up bronze.
Both the Kings and Queens will participate in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships on November 8. The event is hosted by Holland College in Prince Edward Island.
Soccer
Queens | ACAC Championship | Lethbridge Polytechnic | October 24-26
The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team earned bronze at the ACAC Championship hosted by Lethbridge Polytechnic.
The RDP Queens defeated the Keyano College Huskies 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Sein Furuyama (Visual Art Diploma) and Grace Smith (Bachelor of Business Administration) scored for the Queens.
In the semi-finals, the Concordia University Thunder edged the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens 1-0.
Then the RDP Queens solidified ACAC bronze with a 2-1 win over the SAIT Trojans. Red Deer's Olivia Lundell scored both goals for the Queens.

Hockey
Queens at NAIT Ooks | Friday, October 24
The RDP Queens Hockey team earned a 5-3 victory over the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton. Rylee Mepham, Tasha Barsby, Victoria Longley, Hannah Lundquist and Hayley Kolosky scored for the Queens. Tora Ward made 25 saves in RDP's net.
Queens vs Ooks | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, October 25
The top seed Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (5-2) defeated the third place NAIT Ooks (4-4) by a 3-2 margin at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Emily Hourie (Bachelor of Kinesiology), Mia McGregor (Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences) and Jailyn Bablitz (Bachelor of Education) scored for the Polytechnic. Elizabeth Campbell, a fourth-year netminder from Black Diamond, earned the win in the Queens' net, turning aside nine shots.
Kings vs U of A Augustana | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, October 24
The RDP Kings Hockey team got by the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings 3-1. Carter Cormier, Tyson Janzen and Kasey Hiemstra recorded goals for the Kings. Evan Fradette (0.960) earned the victory in RDP's net.
Kings at U of A Augustana Vikings | Saturday, October 25
The first place Kings (4-0) solidified a 6-0 win over the seventh seed Vikings (0-4) in Camrose. Dawson Leroux scored twice for the Polytechnic. Ryland McNinch, Alex Bernauer, Nic Andrusiak and Sean Michalevich added singles. Ethan Farrow recorded a 22-save shutout.
Rodeo
Queens | Olds College Fall Rodeo | October 25-26
The Red Deer Polytechnic Rodeo team had a strong outing in Olds. Kaybree Zunti finished first (14.12) on Saturday and fourth (14.34) on Sunday in Barrel Racing. On Saturday, Mattie Jensen (22.07) ranked seventh in Pole Bending.
In Goat Tying, Zunti (8.4) placed third on Saturday and tied for second (7.9) on Sunday. She also tied for 10th (3.6) in the Breakaway Challenge on the second day. Zunti and her partner Tray Hofmann (from Lakeland College) tied for second (6.6) on Sunday and finished seventh (14.4) on Saturday in Team Roping.
