Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season action is back in full swing and there are many intriguing matchups for fans to enjoy. Both RDC Volleyball squads will host the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in a pair of matches. The Kings & Queens Hockey teams will face-off against their rivals, the MacEwan University Griffins, in a home-and-home series.

Here is a summary of what is happening this week:

 

Queens Volleyball | Friday, Jan. 10 | 6:00 pm | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The second place RDC Queens (10-2) will entertain the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (2-10). The Queens have won ten consecutive matches while the Kodiaks have dropped eight in a row.

As a group, the Queens have 87 aces and Red Deer's Emma Holmes leads the way with 21.

Left side hitter Mack Lewicki has been one of the Kodiaks' biggest offensive weapons, recording 95 kills, 2.26 kills per set, and a team leading 16 service aces.

The Red Deer College Queens will compete against the Kodiaks in an afternoon rematch.

 

Kings Volleyball | Friday, Jan. 10 | 8:00 pm | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The third place RDC Kings (9-3) will challenge the south leading Lethbridge College Kodiaks (10-2).

Over 12 matches, the Kings have 11.45 kills per set, which ranks just behind Keyano College (11.84) in the ACAC. First-year Carter Hills leads the RDC Kings with 2.63. Ben Holmes, a Bachelor of Arts student, is close behind (2.52).

Right side hitter Carter Hansen provides a spark to the Lethbridge College offence. He is second in the league with 168 kills and third with 3.82 kills per set.

The Kings and Kodiaks will hit the RDC court in an afternoon tilt.

  

Queens Hockey | Friday, Jan. 10 | 7:00 pm | MacEwan University

The second place Red Deer College Queens (9-2-1-0) will clash with the league leading MacEwan University Griffins (11-3-0-0). The Queens also have two games in hand.

Queens goaltender Karlee Fetch has played well. She has a 1.97 goals against average and 0.919 save percentage.

The Queens will battle the Griffins at RDC.

 

Kings Hockey | Friday, Jan. 10 | 7:00 pm | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The second seed RDC Kings (12-1-1-0) will entertain the third place MacEwan University Griffins (9-5-0-0) at home. Kings goaltender Arik Weersink sports a 2.61 goals against average and 0.908 save percentage.

Tyler Podgorenko, an RDC Instrumentation Engineering Technician student, leads all ACAC defencemen with 19 points (six goals and 13 assists) in only 14 games. Impressively, he has five more points than second place Matt Benko of Concordia.

The Griffins will host the Kings in Edmonton.
