January exhibition games and scrimmages

With a break in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season schedule, several RDC teams will partake in exhibition action in early January.

Queens Hockey | Saturday, Jan. 4 | 7:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

In non-conference play, the RDC Queens will compete against the Northern Alberta Extreme. Heading into the break, the Queens are second in the standings and have a game in hand over the league leading MacEwan University Griffins. Camryn Wallan leads the team in scoring with 10 points. In 12 games, the Bachelor of Education Elementary student has three goals and seven assists. Two of Wallan's markers are game-winners.

The Red Deer College Kings (5-5) will host the Keyano College Huskies (11-1) from the ACAC Men's Basketball North Division. The Huskies lead the north by four points over the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (9-3). The RDC Kings are tied for third in the south. Legal Assistant student Tyronn King has been a nice addition, averaging 16 points, 7.9 boards and 5.6 assists.

The Kings and Huskies will hit the hardwood in an exhibition rematch.


Queens Basketball | Sunday, Jan. 5 | 10:00 a.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The RDC Queens (4-6) will play the Keyano College Huskies (10-2). In 10 games, they have faced the defending national champion Olds College Broncos twice, winning once. The Queens have also played the fifth nationally ranked Briercrest College Clippers three times. The Queens share fifth spot in the south with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (4-5), who have one game in hand. Lauren Cardinal has been efficient with the ball, ranking fourth in the league with a field goal percentage of 53.7. Amy Szymanek leads the team with 12.9 points per game.

Kings Volleyball | Saturday, Jan. 4 | 6:00 p.m. | SAIT

The third place Kings (9-3) will challenge the SAIT Trojans (10-4) in Calgary. The RDC Kings finished the first half of the season with two impressive victories over the Trojans. One win was a sweep and the second decision was wrapped up in four sets.

In 12 matches Patrik Toze (11) has 82 kills, 33 digs, 12 stuff blocks and six aces

 

Queens Volleyball

The RDC Queens will host a few friendly scrimmages over the holidays. The Griffons de Cégep Outaouais, les Élans de Cégep Garneau, SAIT Trojans and Olds College Broncos will participate at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
