Kings & Queens earn wins on day one at ACAC Curling Fall Regional

Lloydminster, AB - All three Red Deer College Curling teams hit the ice for the first time this season at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Curling Fall Regional on Friday. Both the Kings and Queens picked up victories on opening day, while the mixed team will look to rebound on Saturday.

The Kings finished 1-1. First the RDC men defeated the Olds College Broncos 7-3 and then were dropped 7-4 by the SAIT Trojans.

In other men's curling action, the MacEwan University Griffins downed the Lakeland College Rustlers 8-4. Concordia University picked up a 7-2 decision over the NAIT Ooks. Then the Griffins rebounded with an 8-4 win over the Rustlers.

The Red Deer College Queens also sat with a 1-1 record after two draws. The Queens dropped a 9-4 result to the Olds College Broncos, but then had an excellent performance to complete the day. The RDC Queens finished strong with a 7-5 victory over the Griffins, last season's national silver medalists.

The Concordia University Thunder Women's team won 7-3 over the Griffins. The Griffins defeated the Ooks 10-4. The University of Alberta Augustana Vikings earned a 7-2 victory over the Ooks. Then the Vikings dropped the Rustlers 8-3. NAIT defeated Olds 9-2.

The University of Alberta Augustana Vikings downed the RDC Mixed Curling team 10-2. The MacEwan University Griffins edged the Rustlers Mixed team 7-6. NAIT shaded SAIT 8-7.

Two more days of competition remain. Lakeland College is hosting the event at Lloydminster Golf & Curling Centre.
