Oshawa, Ontario - The Red Deer College Kings Soccer team continued its momentum onto the national stage. After spotting the Holland Hurricanes a goal, the Kings evened the contest in the second half and eventually won their quarter-final on penalty kicks at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer National Championship. 

After a conservative start for both teams, the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Champion Holland Hurricanes (8-1-3) struck in the 16th minute. Third-year Alex Lourenso, an Automotive Technology student, jumped on a ball that didn't clear the Kings' zone and he beat goalkeeper Jacob Hamilton with a hard strike to the left side of the net. The goal stood as the lone marker for the remainder of the half. 

The RDC Kings entered the second half refocused and re-energized. In the 56th minute, the Kings knotted the contest 1-1. Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto blasted a shot that Hurricanes goalkeeper Hayden Porter deflected off the crossbar, but Lacombe's Nathan Swartz put the rebound into the back of the net.

When regulation time couldn't produce a victor, each side selected five shooters to cap off the game on penalty kicks.

Holland College's first three shooters were successful and were matched by goals from RDC's Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto, Gabriel Fleury de Queiroz and Kyle Bett. The Hurricanes' goal scorer Alex Lourenso was denied on his attempt with a brilliant outstretched save by Jacob Hamilton. Turner Johnson gave the RDC Kings the advantage with a low strike and Holland College evened it up with their final shooter. It was left up to Gabriel Martins Fonseca and the second-year RDC Business Administration student delivered. After a stutter-step approach, the talented midfielder found open space on the right side and the Kings celebrated, advancing to the CCAA semi-final against the host Durham Lords.

Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto, a second-year midfielder from Fortaleza, Brazil, was named the Kings Player-of-the-Game. Kaito Yamamoto, a first-year midfielder from Chiba, Japan, earned the award for the Hurricanes.

On Thursday, November 7, the RDC Kings will face the host Durham Lords at 5:30 p.m. EST in the national semi-final. The Durham Lords defeated the Douglas College Royals 3-1.
