This week in RDC Athletics

This Week in RDC Athletics is sponsored by Parkland Fuel

Hockey has been part of many people's lives across Canada and unfortunately so has cancer. As part of a Hockey Fights Cancer weekend at RDC, proceeds from the 50/50 draws at both the Kings and Queens' home games will go to the Canadian Cancer Foundation. Hockey Fights Cancer was founded in 1998 by the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) to rally support for people with cancer, and their families.

This week the Hockey Queens and MacEwan University Griffins will play a home-and-home series. The RDC Kings Hockey team will challenge the Concordia University Thunder in a pair of games. Both basketball teams will travel to Calgary and face the St. Mary's University Lightning.

Here is a summary of what is happening this week in RDC Athletics:

Queens Hockey | Friday, Nov. 1 | 7:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Queens (4-0) will host the first place MacEwan University Griffins (6-0) as part of a Hockey Fights Cancer weekend at RDC. It's a great opportunity to watch the only two undefeated teams in ACAC Women's Hockey, while supporting a great cause through the 50/50 draw.

The RDC Queens have the top penalty kill (100 per cent) and third best power play (21.1 per cent) in the league.

The second place RDC Kings (4-1-1-0) will play the Concordia University Thunder (2-2-1-1) on the road. Over six games, defenceman Tyler Podgorenko and all-star forward Chase Thudium have seven points each.

The Kings' penalty killing has been outstanding and leads ACAC Men's Hockey with a 100 per cent success rate.
