Here is a summary of what is happening this week in RDC Athletics:

Queens Hockey | Thursday, October 10 | 7:00 p.m. | Olds College

The 12 returning student-athletes and 11 new additions are ready for the 2019-20 ACAC Women's Hockey season, which begins in Olds.

"That should be a good series right off the bat," says Camryn Wallan, a third-year Bachelor of Education Elementary student. "We're going to have to make sure that we use our speed, get pucks to the net and make sure we capitalize on our opportunities."

After many practices and six exhibition games, the RDC Queens are thrilled to hit the ice in regular season action.

"I'm excited to get started," says Head Coach Kelly Coulter. "All the girls are ready to compete."

Defender Ashley Sutherland

Queens Hockey | Friday, October 11 | 7:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Queens will host the Broncos in a rematch.

Kings Hockey | Friday, October 11 | 7:00 p.m. | MacEwan University

The Red Deer College Kings will begin the new campaign against the defending champion MacEwan University Griffins. The two teams were involved in a memorable semi-final last year when all three games went into overtime. MacEwan University eventually took the hard-fought series, going on to win their third consecutive ACAC Championship.

Head Coach Trevor Keeper thinks that experience could help this team reach the next step. "We feel that we learned from that last year. We've been to the semi-finals the last couple of years," he says. "We've been to double-overtime games in the playoffs, so that experience is invaluable. It could be the factor that pushes this group through to the next level."
