This week in RDC Athletics

This week, the Kings & Queens Soccer teams will travel down south and open the 2019-20 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season with a pair of road games. There is also non-conference hockey action at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, which will give RDC fans an early look at the new rosters of the Kings & Queens.

Here is a summary of what is happening this week in RDC Athletics:

Queens Soccer | Saturday, September 7 | 2:00 p.m. | Medicine Hat College

The RDC Queens have been preparing for months and Head Coach Esad Elkaz is thrilled about the group he has assembled. Eleven returning student-athletes are complemented by eight promising recruits.

"This year, we are deep in every position–from the defence, to the midfield to the forwards," says Elkaz. "I think everything is coming together."

The Queens will begin the ACAC season in Medicine Hat. Last season, the RDC Queens (8-2-2) finished second and the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2-9-1) placed seventh in the south.

In the second game of the young season, the Queens will compete against the Kodiaks in Lethbridge. The Kodiaks (6-4-2) finished six points behind the Queens (8-2-2) in the 2018-19 standings.

Kings Soccer | Saturday, September 7 | 4:00 p.m. | Medicine Hat College

The Red Deer College Kings Soccer team has an even mix of 11 veterans and 11 new student-athletes, and returning midfielder, Theo Gill, likes the makeup of the squad.

"I see a lot of heart from our group and also from the new guys coming in. The rooks coming in are quality soccer players," Gill says. "The cohesion has really grown and grown. It's a really good mix and a really fun group to be a part of."

The RDC Kings will start the new campaign against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on the road. The Kings (7-3-2) placed third and the Rattlers (4-7-1) finished fourth in the south last year.
