Cross Country Running ID camp

Red Deer, AB - The Red Deer College Cross Country Running team will be hosting an identification and prospects camp from July 25 to 27 on RDC's Main Campus.

This camp is open to athletes who are 13 years of age and older, or who are entering grade 9 in the fall, and want to expand their running skills and knowledge. Additionally, a 5 km race will occur for the registrants and those who want to try out for the 2019-20 RDC Cross Country Running team. 

The morning sessions on Thursday and Friday will include drills, a run, stretching, strength exercises and discussions on nutrition, goal setting and enhancing mental skills. Athletes can choose to register for all three days or just for Saturday's race. 

Cross Country Running ID Camp Schedule

Red Deer College, Main Campus, outdoor track

Thursday, July 25 | 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

  • workout and strength/stretch sessions
  • mental skills session
  • team building activities

Friday, July 26 | 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

  • run and drills/stretch
  • nutrition and injury prevention session
  • team building activities

Saturday, July 27 | 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (Please arrive and register by 9:30 a.m. at RDC's outdoor track)

  • 5 km time trial on campus
  • group cool down, run and stretch
  • question and answer time with RDC coaching staff
  • overview of RDC running program, team selection and team culture
  • meet and mingle with current RDC Cross Country/Indoor Track team over light refreshments

Fees

  • All three days, race and t-shirt - $50 plus GST
  • Saturday 5 km race only - $20 plus GST

Participants MUST register prior to midnight, Monday, July 22. Please note, there will be no refunds once payment has been made.

2018-19 RDC Cross Country Running

The RDC Kings and Queens Cross Country Running teams had a superb 2018-19 season. Both groups captured silver at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championships at Vermilion Running Course. Jill Stewart and Matt Hope won bronze and were both named to their respective All-Conference teams. Shayla Sklaruk was selected as the Women's Rookie of the Year and an All-Conference member. Kari Elliott was chosen as the ACAC Coach of the Year. At the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships in Ontario, the Queens sealed national bronze and Stewart finished tenth, solidifying a position on the All-Canadian team. Hope finished nationals with bronze and as an All-Canadian. Stewart capped off another outstanding year by being named the Red Deer Botting RDC Female Athlete of the Year at the 2019 RDC Athletics Awards Night
