RDC Golf program suspended

RDC Golf program suspended

After careful evaluation and deliberation, Red Deer College has decided to suspend the Golf program indefinitely.

Tight budgetary constraints made the continued operation of the team difficult and unfeasible in light of several factors. These include the length of the season, declining scope and depth of competition in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), size of the program when compared to other RDC athletic programs, and overall contribution to the mandate of RDC Athletics to build community.

"It was truly a difficult decision that came to the forefront after many internal discussions," says Dr. Paulette Hanna, Vice President Academic. "At RDC, we are proud of all of our student-athletes and coaches, and the legacy they've achieved."

The coaches and potential returning RDC golfers have been informed about this difficult decision to suspend the golf program in a face-to-face meeting.

"These kinds of decisions are always challenging as they are emotionally charged, especially for those invested in Red Deer College Golf and RDC Athletics. We would like to thank the coaches and student-athletes for their hard work and dedication to the program," says Diane St-Denis, RDC Athletic Director. "Supports have been offered to our student-athletes during this time of change and transition, and we wish them well in the future."
