This week in RDC Athletics

This week the Red Deer College Kings Hockey team will compete against the MacEwan University Griffins in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's Hockey semi-final. The RDC Indoor Track team will race at the ACAC Championships over two days in Calgary.

Here is a summary of what is happening this week in RDC Athletics.

Kings Hockey | Thursday, March 14 | 7:00 p.m. | MacEwan University

The RDC Kings will open the best of three semi-final against the MacEwan University Griffins in Edmonton. The Kings will enter the series with some momentum. Prior to downing the Concordia University Thunder in straight games in the quarter-final, the Red Deer College Kings won six consecutive regular season contests, and eight of their past 10. MacEwan University received a bye to the semi-final because of their top two placement in the standings. In the Griffins' past ten regular season games, they won six.

In the last regular season series on February 22 and 27, the RDC Kings defeated the Griffins in back-to-back games and outscored them by a total of 9-2. Dylan Thudium led both teams with four points (one goal and three assists). Arik Weersink was the winning goaltender in both contests. The Business Administration student from Lethbridge made 31 saves for a 3-0 shutout in Sylvan Lake. Then in Edmonton, the first-year Kings goaltender made 36 saves out of 38 shots (0.947) in a 6-2 victory.

The NAIT Ooks will face the SAIT Trojans in the other semi-final.
