This week in RDC Athletics

This week, the RDC Cross Country team will run at the national championships. Both volleyball teams will play the Olds College Broncos in a home-and-home series. The Queens & Kings Basketball squads will travel to Calgary to challenge the SAIT Trojans, and then they will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. The Hockey Queens will play the Trojans in a pair of games and the Kings will hit the ice to face-off against the Portage College Voyageurs in two games at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Here is a summary of what is happening this week in RDC Athletics.

 

Cross Country Running | National Championships | Saturday, Nov. 10 | Seneca College

The Red Deer College Queens & Kings are excited and ready to compete at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships this Saturday. The event will take place on the Oak Ridges Moraine just north of Toronto at Seneca College's King Campus.  The women's 6 km race will consist of two 3-km loops, while the men's event will be 8 km.

Heading into the championships, the Queens are ranked second in the CCAA, just behind the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The RDC Kings are ranked fifth nationally.

Queens Basketball | Friday, Nov. 9 | 6:00 p.m. | SAIT

The Basketball Queens (0-4) will face the SAIT Trojans (2-2) down south. Paige Schultz has been one of the Queens' leaders, connecting on 34.4 per cent of her three-point attempts.

Queens Basketball | Saturday, Nov. 10 | 3:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

In an afternoon showdown, the RDC Queens will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (4-0).

 

Kings Basketball | Friday, Nov. 9 | 8:00 p.m. | SAIT

The RDC Kings (3-1) will hit the hardwood against the Trojans (4-0). Red Deer's Spencer Klassen, a Bachelor of Education Elementary student, ranks fifth in league scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game.

Kings Basketball | Saturday, Nov. 10 | 5:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Kings will play the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (3-1) at home. Both teams will enter the weekend tied for third spot in the ACAC Men's Basketball South Division.

 

Queens Hockey | Friday, Nov. 9 | 7:00 p.m. | SAIT

In Calgary, the RDC Queens (2-4) will take on the SAIT Trojans (1-7). The Queens have only played six games so far, the fewest in ACAC Women's Hockey. First-year forward Veronika Bucifalova leads the Queens with five goals and eight points.

In the second half of the home-and-home series, the Queens will entertain the Trojans.

 

Kings Hockey | Friday, Nov. 9 | 7:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

After a bye week, the third place Red Deer College Kings (5-2-0-1) will look forward to hitting the ice against the sixth seeded Portage College Voyageurs (2-6-0-0). Sylvan Lake's Chase Thudium leads the Kings with six goals and ten points in only eight games.

Kings Hockey | Saturday, Nov. 10 | 1:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

In an afternoon rematch, the Kings will host the Voyageurs.

 

Queens Volleyball | Thursday, Nov. 8 | 6:00 p.m. | Olds College

The Red Deer College Queens (3-5) will compete against the Olds College Broncos (0-6) on the road. The Queens are coming off a strong weekend, winning both matches against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.

Several Queens sit in the top five of various ACAC Women's Volleyball categories. Kaylee Domoney has the fourth most digs (109), Alexandria Greenshields ranks fifth with 0.73 blocks per set, McKenna Olson is fifth with 0.57 service aces per set and setter Natalie Bloemen averages the third most assists per set (7.97).

Queens Volleyball | Friday, Nov. 9 | 6:00 p.m. | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

In a weekend rematch, the Volleyball Queens will host the Broncos.

 

Kings Volleyball | Thursday, Nov. 8 | 8:00 p.m. | Olds College

The Red Deer College Kings (4-4) will face the Olds College Broncos (0-6). The Kings looked sharp in Saturday's four set victory (23-25, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14) over the previously undefeated Medicine Hat College Ratters.

As a team, the Kings have totaled 52 service aces
